Always wanted to go to the Minnesota Opera but never wanted to shell out for an expensive ticket (even though it’s definitely worth it)? You’re in luck! The renowned company is performing “La bohème” at three free outdoor concerts around the Twin Cities to celebrate their 50th anniversary. This is an incredible show to experience for free (and the main inspiration for the musical RENT) so DON’T MISS IT.
Tonight the show is happening at Harriet Island in St. Paul—specifically at the Target Stage in the middle of the park. Bring lots of friends, blankets, food n’ stuff, and bug spray.

Don’t worry everyone, Hot Freaks is back!! They haven’t played regular shows in forever which has left the Twin Cities sad and dreary—but tonight they’re back at it and releasing a tape! Oooooo.
If you can’t make it to the show or don’t have a tape player or just can’t wait any longer, go download that sucker now and throw them a couple $$$ even though you can download it for free: http://hotfreaks.bandcamp.com/album/hot-freaks-3
You may notice some old Hot Freaks favorites on the album, but they’re re-recorded, so that’s exciting. And if all this and the thought of dancing the night away isn’t enough to get you to go, there’s this:

Oh hey!
For all of you that are new to our blog, we just wanted to let you know what it’s all about! We post about stuff that’s happening in Minneapolis (and sometimes St. Paul) that we think you should check out. Unlike all the other “what’s happening in the city” sites that collect every possible event and/or sponsor events based on who gives them money, we just pick stuff we know you’ll enjoy. We also post pictures and videos we’ve taken around the city, our favorite places, music from local bands, and whatever else we feel like! Check out all the tabs over there if you want ——->
The most important thing though is our calendar (click here or over on the right to check it out). We constantly update that with new things going on, so if you’re stuck without something fun to do on a night in Minneapolis, go there first. You won’t be disappointed! We try to include something for everyone, whether you’re over or under 21.
Lastly, Vita.mn is doing their “List of Lists” right now where people vote on their favorite things in the Twin Cities. If you dig our blog, we’d appreciate a vote for BAmpls.tumblr.com for “Best Local Blog”! (http://www.vita.mn/best-of/207309431.html) If you’d rather not, no worries :)

Zoo Animal is playing tonight in Mears Park in the middle of downtown St. Paul, and considering it’s one of the nicest days of summer so far you have no excuse to miss this. Also, Enemy Planes will be opening up the night and there will be food trucks around the park. If you haven’t seen Zoo Animal’s new lineup yet, this is the perfect opportunity:

When was the last time you went to an arcade that accepted quarters? When was the last time you went to an arcade and played Donkey Kong? When was the last time you went to an arcade?
You should get on that right away, and we highly suggest Rusty Quarters. It’s over in Uptown next to Bryant Lake Bowl, but despite the location, it’s welcoming and unassuming. The guy at the counter will gladly exchange your bills for quarters, and you can grab some jar candy to chew on while whooping your friends in the X-Men: Children of the Atom two player fighter.
My game of choice: Rampage
Beth’s game of choice: X-Men: Children of the Atom (fave character = Iceman)
They’ve also got classics like Donkey Kong, Tron, Tetris, and a rotating array of ridic pinball machines (like Indiana Jones with a pistol instead of a normal plunger).

I’m trying to get that Donkey Kong high score by the end of summer, and Beth is a master of X-Men—so if anyone wants a challenge…
