Nice Purse and France Camp - Triple Rock Social...
If you’re looking to go to a show tonight (6/28), the only place worth going to is the Triple Rock. Trust us. We’ll be there with a bunch of people who will be out of their element, and that’s enough incentive right there.
THE LINEUP
-Nice Purse: A bunch of kids with face paint who will rip your face off.
-France Camp: The lead singer of Nice Purse and former Howler...

OUTDOOR MOVIE: The Princess Bride
Do you like fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, and miracles? Well GOOD because The Princess Bride is playing outside tonight (6/28) for free at Victory Memorial Park.
This is guaranteed to be awesome because the park will probably be filled with a ton of people who know all the lines and will laugh really hard at everything. YES.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World @ The Trylon
Scott Pilgim vs. the World is one of the most underappreciated movies I have ever had the pleasure of watching. It actually does justice to the graphic novels it is based on, it has Anna Kendrick AND Jason Schwartzman, and the video game references are creative and hilarious (even to the people out there who’ve only ever played N64 at their friends’ houses).
If you have never seen it,...

MIA Third Thursday - ART SWAP
Thursday just seems to be the favorite day for art museums in the Twin Cities. There are the free Thursdays over at the Walker and “Third Thursday” events at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. Unlike the Walker, the MIA is always free. These Third Thursday events are just to add a little extra excitement to the already lengthened hours.
And guess what? TODAY IS THE THIRD...

Captured Dreams
Northern Spark was already 10 days ago! WHAT IS HAPPENING TO THE TIME???
But amazing creations are still coming out of that event, and this magazine up here (^) is especially amazing for many reasons.
What we have here is “Captured Dreams,” a magazine put together by blossoming local literary creative collective Paper Darts IN ONE NIGHT. That’s right, during Northern...

Como Zoo Adventure
In theory, I don’t like zoos. The idea of animals cooped up in cages being sad and bored all day long is super depressing.
But the reality is: ZOOS ARE AWESOME!
Since the Como Zoo is free I didn’t think that they wouldn’t have anything cool there, but I was wrong. They have all kinds of creatures that look like weird dream versions of what we have around here.
I loved the...

Zoo Animal - Young Bold (long lost remix album)
Zoo Animal put out an album back in 2010 called Young Bold which features remixes of five songs from their 2008 debut Young Blood. This remix release was only available online by way of download cards, and after those cards disappeared so did the album to the endless graveyard of the interwebs.
But today is a glorious day—IT HAS BEEN FOUND! You can now purchase this album, as well as all of...

Girl Walk // All Day @ First Avenue
No matter how you feel about the rest of the mashup artists out there, you can’t deny that Girl Talk’s music is infectious. Every time I hear it I can’t help but start dancing like an idiot. It’s so infectious that some guy out there named Jacob Krupnick created a music video (Girl Walk // All Day) for all 71-minutes of Girl Talk’s latest album All Day.
“A...

The Goonies - Lyndale Farmstead Park
The Goonies.
Outside.
FOR FREE.
TONIGHT.
One of many movies in the park around Minneapolis this summer, this is the first one we are going to make it out to. I make a point of watching The Goonies every summer because it’s the ultimate adventure/comedy/gang of kids getting into shenanigans movie. And not just that, it’s also the greatest love story ever told: Sloth and Chunk.

Introducing: The Bikery
I love baking. Alex loves baking. I love biking. Alex loves biking. So one day we had the amazing idea of PUTTING THE TWO TOGETHER. And so: The Bikery was born.
It’s exactly what it sounds like - a biking bakery. Order cookies and we’ll bring them to you by bike. We’re testing it tonight at Northern Spark with cookies from #cookieparty2012yolo...

Low and Zoo Animal @ A Cemetery
That’s right, Minnesota bands Low (from Duluth) and Zoo Animal (from Minneapolis, and one of my favorite bands of all time) are playing Pioneers and Soldiers Cemetery. A CEMETERY. We wish it was after dark, but being kid-friendly and all that a midnight graveyard show probably wouldn’t fly. Either way, we couldn’t think of a better place to see these two bands, and all the...

NORTHERN SPARK
Northern Spark—
aka The Minneapolis Nuit Blanche
aka The All-Night Art Festival
aka The Best Event of the Summer
—is only 5 DAYS AWAY.
Both of us have been waiting a long time for this (I have been waiting since sunrise of June 5th, 2011), and it’s finally almost here! AHHH! While a large part of the Minneapolis community is beginning to take notice and get excited, we thought...

The Witch's Tower - TONIGHT ONLY
I’ve always thought that the witch’s tower was aptly named, for more reasons than the obvious conical roof. It’s a little creepy, and a lot mysterious. The first time I visited the tower was late fall. The last leaves were falling; it was grey, windy, and—surprise—you couldn’t go up to the top, for undisclosed reasons....
